A couple months ago Marsha Adams from the Frenchtown Museum called me with a great story. Their building on North Second Street in St Charles sold to Good News Brewing in an effort to help bring more business and a new neighborhood gathering place to historic Frenchtown. Best of all, the building’s new owners wanted to keep the Museum! Housed in a side room, the Frenchtown Museum will remain open to the public during the restaurant’s hours, continuing to showcase the history of their neighborhood. With the proceeds of the sale of the building, the Museum board decided to invest that money into their local area businesses to help with the revitalization of that part of Frenchtown. In a way, ‘Paying it Forward” to the area that housed the museum for so many years.
Marsha told me about an energetic man named Dr. Jose Jones and the first property that they would like to help. Dr. Jones is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in youth and family therapy, a retired professional boxer, and founder of The Boxing Therapy. In addition to traditional office counseling his other passion uses the skill of boxing to teach self-esteem and setting personal goals to area youth. While working on getting professional signage the building that houses the gym is also in serious need of paint. The Frenchtown Museum board was wanting to hire us to help the museum volunteers paint Jose’s building in preparation for an amateur boxing exhibition to be held in early August.
As many of you know, we believe that through the success we have had as a company it is our duty to give back to the communities we work in. For the last 7 years our Paint It Forward projects have helped improve both personal homes and nonprofit organization properties. We typically perform these projects in the winter, but feel we miss out on being able to beautify an exterior of a worthy organization, or in this case, a couple of fantastic people and organizations. I am excited to announce our first ever summer Paint It Forward Project being Boxing Therapy! Frenchtown Museum will be supplying the paint needed for the project and Kennedy Painting will be supplying the labor and equipment needed to paint the 2000 sq ft building. We are proud to be included in helping revitalize this section of an historic neighborhood and assisting with the gym maintenance so Jose can better showcase the great work that Boxing Therapy is doing to help the youth in his community.
